this last week. the debates will likely be a different story because this weekend the death toll for americans in the war surpassed the 2000 mark. the soldier who made the helmet cam video suffered only minor wounds and has returned to duty. but it's amazing that he suffered only minor wounds when you see this incredible story. his fight to survive is gripping. take a look. >> fire! hey! i'm moving down! ah! ah! but this was a very good end to a bad week for the president. really the best possible end that president obama could have hoped for. mitt romney came out so strong in that debate, president obama lackluster. he got called rusty. detached. not the words he was looking for. >> hold that thought, we're going to talk about that. i want to go back to something, four days before the presidential election is when the next jobs report is going to come out. if they go down even further? what does that mean if. >> it could go down. it could also go back up. >> right. >> this has been an economic recovery that's been a difficult one. the administration says that as well. this was a great jobs report for the president. it broke down past that 8% mark that mitt romney's been hitting so hard in this campaign. >> you can imagine -- >> this is a great day for the president. >> you can imagine the white house and probably the campaign in chicago doing somersaults. does this make people now say, what debate? by most people's accounts, the president was awful, ho

we've seen in the last few weeks. i would say this. i started the whole career at 30 something years plus ago in political debate. i would look for what we call a spring board. and that is to take the things they're talking about all are in the past. if i remember mitt romney, i would move this into the future, the impact of the legislation we've seen and what impact it will have on the future in the next four years versus what he offers in the next four years. i haven't heard enough of that. and if you've seen romney come out quickly with answers, there are one, two, three, enumerated that sounds like real ideas and proposals, she'll appear to be a lot more of a together candidate than we've seen in the past. if he comes out the way he's been generally speaking trying to get obama upset, obama's not going to bite for it. he needs to be really concise, enumerate and one zinger, not a bunch of them. >> thanks so much. >> thank you so much, carol. >> i hope you visit us again. cnn's live coverage starts at 7:00 eastern. delicious sugar-f

. >> but, you and weir jui were t last week, alison, we learned president obama is a job creator. why isn't that helping him with the economists? >> that's a good question. and the answer is because hiring still isn't strong enough. those who support romney say, you know, there is too much regulatory uncertainty, businesses aren't sure what is going to happen with the fiscal cliff coming up. they're not doing anything. they're sitting on their hands, not hiring. another reason that these economists didn't go with obama is political gridlock. some say that romney is likely to have more success getting legislation through congress. but, those who support obama say the president is more likely to reduce the deficit, to cut entitlement spending like social security, but once again, just not a lot of excitement for either person. which is kind of sad. >> let's talk about excitement on the dow. let's show the stocks because they have been rallying since this morning, what is it -- up 121 points now. got a pretty important report on the manufacturing sector. what do we need to know? >> s

and he's going to bring congress back to have hearings next week on this issue. no question this has become a political issue and in terms of hearings, coming at a very bad time for president obama and the democrats. >> something to look for possibly if not tomorrow night in denver in that debate down the road for sure. as we talk libya, we talked a lot, erin, on your show and my show, about afghanistan. but if you look at iraq where the president ended u.s. combat relations and he's touted that, they're having huge problems there. >> it's amazing. as you talk about it, last week at his speech to the u.n. general assembly, the president went through a list of what he considered to be his big victories, osama bin laden being dead was one and ending the war in iraq was another one. september was the deadliest in terms of attack since august of 2010, which is pretty shocking since the war is technically over. on top of that reuters has some footage that we have for you of literally pictures of the iotolla from iran. pictures all over iraq now as iran is trying to ga
